Farmer Application

If you're a farmer or grower, this is where you can put yourself forward for one of our fully-funded media education workshops. We ask everyone to fill out our questionnaire so that we can learn about you and your farm, your thoughts on working with the media and what you hope to get out of the training we provide.

1. Contact Details

2. About You

3. Your Independence

4. Working With The Media

(Previous media experience is not essential, so don’t worry if these questions are not applicable to you.)

5. The Commitment

If selected for Just Farmers, you are agreeing to be open, truthful, approachable and available. That means picking up the phone to journalists, agreeing to be interviewed and, if needed, allowing your farm to be filmed and photographed. If the wider story/issue is negative or controversial, you may be asked tough or sensitive questions and you will be expected to answer them. However, you will not be speaking on behalf of industry – only as an individual farmer, commenting on how the big issues affect you personally. Just Farmers is not a vehicle for industry lobbying, marketing or advertising. By joining Just Farmers, you agree not to promote your own way of farming by criticising someone else’s. Just Farmers is independent, non-political, open and honest.

You will be expected to attend two workshops in a six-month period. Each workshop is two days. The workshops are fully funded, thanks to the charities that generously support Just Farmers and cover your accommodation, food, venue hire, guest speaker, media educator fees and expenses, and taxis. If you cannot attend, for whatever reason, decide to book your own accommodation, or miss any of the four days of workshops, you are liable for the cost of your place (approx. £250-£300).
The commitment we make...
Just Farmers isn’t just about helping the media find great interviewees and case studies. It’s about building your confidence, helping you understand how the media works and giving you the tools to prepare you for an interview situation. I run two workshops to achieve this. These practical sessions focus on understanding the media, stepping outside your comfort zone, talking, listening and just being yourself on camera or microphone. I will support you through this process and throughout the Just Farmers experience. You will also meet experienced media professionals and be part of a supportive team with like-minded farmers and growers from around the UK.
